Thursday we hiked 11 miles along the the Na Pali Coast to spend the night on the beach below. The 11 mile hike back on Friday was a bit treacherous (and exhausting) with rain and muddy trails but the beautiful scenery was worth it. Today we’re lying on the beach and icing our sore muscles.

Today I saw the “grand canyon of Hawaii” - Waimea Canyon. I’ve been in Kauai for 2 days and I’ve already hiked the “sleeping giant” mountain with a retired army colonel, visited a coffee plantation, eaten tangerines from the tree in the front yard every morning, and fed some chickens. We also saw Opaka Falls and met the neighbor’s baby calf that was born last night. Tomorrow: kayaking.
